However, there is another reason to consider an electric floor warming system for your home: electric radiant floor heat may be a safer form of heat when compared to many traditional heating systems. There are many reasons why floor heat may be a safer option:

1) A heated floor may reduce injuries to children. Children and traditional heating systems do not mix. Children must be kept away from furnaces and radiators at all times but since baseboards and vents are located in rooms, it is much harder to supervise children around these items. Children may burn themselves on vents or baseboards or place fingers or toys inside vents and baseboards, creating a fire hazard as well as the possibility of injury. Since radiant floor heat uses heated cables, which are installed under flooring, there are no vents, baseboard heaters, radiators, or other dangerous apparatuses for children to play with. 2) Heated floors may reduce burn injuries. Traditional heating systems have elements that get intensely hot. Furnaces, pipes, vents, baseboard heaters, and radiators can all get hot enough to cause burn injuries if touched. Brushing by these things accidentally can cause serious injury or at least annoying blisters. With electric floor heating systems, this danger is virtually eliminated. Radiant floor heating systems use radiant heat cable installed under the floors, so nothing gets hot enough to cause burns. In fact, radiant heat never gets as heated up as a traditional heating system, since radiant floor heating systems are considered to be “low heat” heating systems. 3) Heated floors can reduce bumps and bruises. Most heating systems take up a lot of space. You need space for furnaces as well as pipes and vents. Resarchers found that the radiant heat transmission component for an in floor heating system is between 50% and 70%, while the radiant heat transmission component for radiator heating systems is between 30% and 50%.

What this means for you is this: Most traditional heating systems transfer heat “by air” rather than by radiant heat transmission. If you have ever stepped into a very hot room, you can appreciate this type of “by air” transmission – the hot air hits your skin, and you feel warmer. In contrast, radiant heat transmission available through electric floor warming systems (like Nuheat) works by transferring heat from surface to surface to you. In an in floor heating system, the air stays cool while in a traditional heating system, surfaces remain cool.

Research has proven that radiant heat transmission is the most comfortable form of heat for humans. Again, you probably know this instinctively. Lying on a warm beach while cool sea breezes wash over you is very relaxing. On the other hand, putting your foot on a cold surface on a sticky hot day is usually less comfortable. Researchers have proven that customers with radiant heat report much higher levels of satisfaction with their heating systems than customers with traditional heating systems. Researchers believe that this may be because radiant heat may be the more natural form of heating for humans.
